Star of Bethlehem - Christmas Eve

And it came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word. - 3 Nephi 1:21 Behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written by the prophet, When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. - Matthew 2: 1-2, 5, 9 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the

Joseph Smith's Birthday - December 23, 1805

The Prophet Joseph Smith was born December 23, 1805, just two days before Christmas is celebrated. There is no record of any specific ways the Prophet celebrated his birthday, but in 1843, on the Prophet’s 38th birthday, he recorded that he spent the day preparing for a celebration—a birthday celebration of sorts, but not his own. Rather he spent the day preparing for Christmas, the observed birthday of the Savior. On Christmas Day of 1843, the Prophet recorded "the celebrat ion began quite early in the morning when carolers serenaded the Prophet’s home around 1:00 A.M. This surprise visit made the Prophet very happy; he recorded that the singing “caused a thrill of pleasure to run through [his] soul” Years earlier, Joseph spent Christmas 1829 at his home in Harmony, no doubt thrilled with the knowledge that the pages of the Book of Mormon were then in the hands of a Palmyra printer and anticipating the volume that would shortly issue from the press. First Presidency 2019 Christmas Message

First Presidency 2019 Christmas Message: The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the following 2019 Christmas message: Memories of Christmas bring recollections of family, gifts, and service. They stem from the real reason for Christmas, that transcendent gift from our Heavenly Father. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) We bear witness of the living reality of Jesus Christ—the Prince of Peace and Light of the World. Joy can come to all who choose to follow Him. This Christmas, may we reflect on the life and Atonement of Jesus Christ. May we feel kinship to those who suffer and see one another as sons and daughters of God. May we gratefully acknowledge the Father’s incomparable gift to us—His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
